Marek Ryszard Dojs

official bio

Marek Dojs is an award-winning filmmaker and associate professor of Communication at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota.

A British Pole raised in the United States within an English community, Marek's multinational experience greatly impacts his artwork - especially in nonfiction film, where he aims to create purposeful work with imbued meaning.

His film work spans a range of subjects, but is particularly focused on character identity within cultural, historical, and communal frameworks. This interest extends to his academic work, where Marek explores the intersection of history, communication, art, and personal identity, with a particular focus on the Holocaust and other genocides.

Marek holds an M.F.A. from the University of North Texas in Denton, and a B.A. in History and Communication from the University of St. Thomas in Houston. He is currently a PhD candidate at Gratz College studying Holocaust and Genocide Studies.

Alongside his professional interests, Marek is a musician and a lifelong supporter of Chelsea Football Club. He has been married to his wife Madeline for over 20 years and they have nine children.
