Early in the 1950s Adam made the decision to abandon his family.  The reasons for this action were not clear.  Because of this, we know little about this time period of his life.​

What we do know is that Adam began working as a machine specialist, applying the skills that he had learned while at the Dora concentration camp.  He made a good living, often being commended for his contribution to important projects.  He lived in Acton, London.  Despite living in the same city as his children, he never once reached out to contact them.​​
